I came in here at night, and was the only customer and expected them not to have any problems. I was wrong. So I ordered the Sakura sushi combo. First, I have never seen a restaurant fail with miso soup. The broth was barely warm, and the tofu bits were huge and completely cold. Disgusting. Even the salad wasn't made to normal standards. It was filled with almost half sauce. My sushi came promptly and the service was mock-friendly. Other than that, I can't say anything else good about it. The sushi itself was not to my liking - wasabi in every sushi piece which had me gagging, which, I realize is a taste issue but is not something that sushi places usually do. They could have asked me about my tastes in that respect. The sushi was very small, tiny pieces compared to anywhere else you can get sushi in the area, and it was badly-made, and easily fell apart. I understand the place is new and the cooks might be incompetent, but this was a disaster. It was like NOTHING had been done right. The 2 slices of watermelon for dessert was the only thing that was delicious, probably because there is no way to screw that up.
The restaurant is designed to look somewhat classy and has a sophisticated atmosphere, but the sushi is a completely different story. It's the punk kid that grandpa yells at to get off his lawn. Nobody wants him there. I certainly don't want the ill-prepared sushi from this place.
Great service, free appetizers, and good tasting sushi. You get so much value for your dollar! The sushi are cut up with care, made the perfect size - meaning you aren't trying to shove a huge piece into your mouth while still trying to look classy. The flavorings in the rice are more subtle than I've had at other restaurants, which I prefer. And they load you with appetizers - fried tofu, glass noodles, sometimes salad and miso soup. So if you're hungry, you're never waiting long for food!
Plus there's always a bit of seasonal fruit for desert. This is all free, mind you.
The people working there are lovely too. Always friendly! Though it's a tiny restaurant, and since there's only one server sometimes they're a bit overloaded with the customers and people calling for take out. Otherwise, always a fantastic experience!
This a an excellent little family run sushi joint. The fish is fresh and the service is friendly. I have become a regular, and they have taken the effort to know what I like. The prices are very fair and you often receive more than you asked for. I started going here when it started and wasn't sure that they would survive because there were very few people in there. Now on some nights every seat is taken. I am happy to see a small family run business prospering and continuing to offer a great inexpensive night out.
